Organize Your Garage Like a Pro
Dump space, cramped parking, improvised gym… The oft neglected and rarely organized garage is nonetheless one of the most important rooms in the house. Here are a few quick tips for transforming it into something practical, functional, and dare we say designer!
Fall is officially here. Time to throw open the garage and pack up the furniture, garden tools, pool accessories and anything else summer left lying around. Then close it up quick – before that shelf collapses! What if organizing your garage wasn’t as impossible as you might think?
1. Rethink The Space
Have you ever opened dozens of boxes in your garage before finding what you were looking for? Us too. Here’s a trick: designate specific zones based on use and necessity, whether you need them often or not. For example, a sports zone for all your hockey equipment, bikes, weights, etc. A zone for pool stuff, a zone for all things gardening, another for workshopping, another for tires and car things, etc. A place for everything, and everything in its place!
2. Storage, Your Ally & Friend
Shelves, stacked shelves, armoires, bins, perforated plywood, S hooks, pots: there are loads of ways to organize every last square foot of your garage. Want to take things even further? Labels (stick-ons, chalkboard paint, colour codes) on your storage bins will help you find your things in a flash and save all that time spent hunting around.Source

3. Do it yourself (DIY)
Can’t find the right type of storage at the store? Then make it! There are endless examples and ideas on Pinterest and renovation websites. Here are a few useful and ingenious ones:Source

4. If It’s Within View, It’s Within Reach.
Keep anything you use on a regular basis within view and close at hand. Turn your space into a virtual presentation center. Tools can be neatly hung on perforated plywood panels. Screws and other small items can be stored in transparent jars or bowls – way more practical than at the bottom of a catch-all drawer or toolbox!Source

5. My Red Carpet Garage
Who says a garage has to be ugly and gray? Give it a personal touch and breathe some life into it: a coat of paint, cut-outs, repurposed crochet, etc. Have fun with it! You’re more likely to enjoy spending time in there organizing, looking, finding, making and finishing projects, whatever they are!Source
